If you have a copy of Microsoft Office installed on your computer, it normally comes with a photo editing program that enables you to change the size of your pictures. To find this program go to your Start button (bottom left hand side of your main screen), select Programs and look for Microsoft Office Tools - Microsoft Photo Editor. Similarly, if you have a scanner or camera installed, this usually comes with software that will allow you to edit your pictures. Once you have the program open, select and load the picture you wish to edit. To edit a picture you will need to look at the menus and submenus at the top of the page, one of them will give you the option to resize your picture. The dialog box that opens will tell you the width and height of the picture in one of the following measurements: Pixels, Cm or Inches. Select Pixels and change the width to the size you require, the height will automatically adjust so that the picture does not distort. If the height is over the allowed limit, change it to the correct size and the width will automatically adjust. Do not expect to get your width and height exactly as required because this will distort your picture. The sizes given by us are the maximum allowed, it doesn't matter if the picture is smaller, some pictures are taller than they are wide and some are wider than they are tall. As a guideline, the weight of your reduced picture should weigh no more than 25 kilobits. You will see the picture at its reduced size. Now save it by going to File, Save As, and renaming it to reflect its changes. Example - Cat.jpg becomes Catsml.jpg. You will retain the large picture in your file and you will now have a small picture that you can load onto this site. The reason pictures have to be reduced in size for the web is because an original picture can be as large as 3000 x 1200 and would take up the whole screen of a web page. It would also take about 20 minutes for the picture to load when being viewed by anyone with a slow internet connection. Pictures reduced in size are normally still too large for the web and have to be further reduced of their pixels ( this is done for you by us once your picture has been uploaded and your page has been approved).
